P7 News Update

P7 News

It has been a busy September in P7! Thank you for your support with all the different trips and visits we had throughout the month. Our swimming block at ASV has come to an end and the children had great fun improving their endurance and stamina when in the pool.

Edinburgh

We had the chance to build upon learning within our topic work with a successful visit to Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh. We explored Natural Disasters through workshops and the virtual tour of our Earth throughout the ages was a particular favourite!

Whilst in Edinburgh we were delighted to have a reunion with Sam who left at the end of P6 last year. Sam’s mum, Rev. Easter Smart, was kind enough to invite us to her church – Currie Kirk – and the children were given a tour of the inside of the church and its spectacular surroundings.

House Captains

House Captains have been selected! After an interview process, the P7 House Captains for 2015/16 are:

Kings – Wiki & Lily
St. Machar – Liliana & Zach
Elphinstone – Hector & Olek
St. Andrew’s – Kaiden & Tolu

Well done to our 8 new House Captains. They will continue to support the school with the help of their classmates.

Maths

In Maths we are progressing well through our fractions topic and have recently been exploring improper fractions and mixed numbers. In the coming weeks, we will be moving on to decimals and percentages.

Literacy

We have produced excellent functional writing and, through the focus of our topic have created excellent reports and fact files regarding different Natural Disasters. P7 have submitted excellent literacy homework which has showcased their ‘Book Detective’ comprehension skills.

Health and Wellbeing

P7 continue to act as responsible role models to the younger children in the school, especially their P1 buddies. In class we have been looking at Kindness and the many different ways people are kind all over the world. This has been the topic of great debates and class discussions. In P.E., fitness and team work within competitive sports has been the focus. Mrs. Armstrong has been impressed at the ways we can work well as a team. Well done!

‘Hoodwinked’

Our Christmas Panto this year is a version of Robin Hood called ‘Hoodwinked’. The children have already been discussing the different parts within the panto and have auditioned for different roles. A full copy of the script will be sent home after the October break. It is important the children have time to learn their lines at home. Thank you for your support in this!

Visit to St. Peter’s Church and Snow Kirk

P7 joined P4-6 in visiting St. Peter’s Church to celebrate Mass with the parishioners of St. Peter’s and Fr. Gabor. Well done to Tolu, Olek, Wiki, Liliana, Liz and Karolina who read the prayers of intercession beautifully.

Over the past week we have studied the statue of Our Lady of Aberdeen and the children were given the opportunity to see a copy of this statue during Mass. On the way back to school we visited the Snow Kirk where Priest Gordon is buried. This was fascinating and developed on their prior knowledge gained during their Old Aberdeen topic in P6

.

Next Thursday 8th October. P7 and P5 will be travelling to Keith to celebrate the 400th anniversary of St. John Ogilvie’s death. Letters have been distributed with information about this trip. In class we have been working hard to learn more about St. John Ogilvie and we will bring our work to Keith to help create part of a wider display

Thank you for attending the ‘Meet the Teacher’ evening. It was great to meet you all!

We look forward to continuing our good work into Term 2.
