P1 Red News

Hello and welcome back to all parents and children of P1 Red.

I hope you are all enjoying the lovely Autumn weather over the past few weeks.

Literacy:

We are continuing to have our reading lessons on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Over the next few weeks we will be learning the sounds g, l, f, o, b and u. We will be working on building, reading and writing short words from the sounds we know and we will use these new words in our writing.

Every week we will have one taught writing session on Thursday morning.

We have been lucky enough to get invited to the Beach Ballroom for the Scottish Children’s book awards event on 25th November. We will get to meet the authors of the nominated books and the authors will be reading their books and answering questions. It promises to be a really great day out and we are really looking forward to it. I will keep you updated with any relevant information regarding the trip over the next few weeks.

Maths:

This term we will be introducing 2d shapes. We plan to have a lot of fun finding out about 2d shapes and investigating our classroom and local environment to find our new shapes.

Topic:

Our topic for this term is ‘The Forest’. We will be reading ‘The Gruffalo’ and we will be finding out about all the different animals that live in the deep dark wood.

Our class will be visiting the beautiful Cruickshank Botanic Garden in Old Aberdeen on Wednesday 18th November. We are going to learn about ‘living things’ (plants and animals) and how scientists sort them into different groups. We will spend time in the Natural History Centre where we will be allowed to touch all the specimens that will be on display. After learning about what features would make something a living thing, we will head outside into the gardens and take part in loads of fun activities that the staff at the gardens have planned for us. It will a really fun and educational trip.

Parent – Teacher interviews:

Our parent –  teacher interviews take place on Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th November.

I am looking forward to meeting the parents and carers of the P1 Red children over the course of both evenings.
