23rd January School News

Burns Day

Many thanks to all staff for preparing the children for the celebration of the birthday of Robert Burns, national poet (Bard) on Wednesday 25th January. Children can wear a touch of tartan if they wish – maybe a shirt, tie, scarf, skirt or trousers. Do not go out to buy something but, if you have an item at home, children can wear tartan. In many classes, the children are making their own tartan badges and other items.

P6 pupils are preparing a Burns Supper and they are inviting grandparents and senior citizens from the community. If you know anyone who would like to come along at 10.45am for entertainment followed by lunch at 11.30am, please contact the school office.

Parent Council News

All parents are invited to the next meeting of the Parent Council on Wednesday 1st February at 6.30pm –  8pm. Please come along to share your ideas about events, options for the school estate and how to involve parents meaningfully in the life of the school. We can arrange a creche if there is a demand for it.

Language

We have been very concerned that a small group of children are using bad language and swearing on a regular basis. They should not be using these words in school and other children should not have to listen to them. When we speak to children about this, they say that they hear the words from adults at home or on the TV or websites (especially YouTube). Please help us by checking the language to which your children are exposed and emphasising the difference between good and bad words. Thank you.

ICT updates

Pupils are enjoying a variety of activities using the different ICT equipment we have in school. Many pupils have now been given log ins to Google Classroom which allows them to view their classwork when they are at home and share their learning with their families. In school, they use Google Chromebooks to access this but they should be able to find it at https://classroom.google.com/ – or search for ‘Google Classroom’ on home PCs or laptops.

Many thanks for all the support you give to your own child and our school community.
