P1 Red World Book Day and updates

Hello everyone!

In P1 Red we have had a wonderful World Book Day!

We read the book, “We are going on a Bear Hunt” by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury. We acted out the story and decorated our classroom door with all the different parts of the story. The children even wrote out all the wonderful describing words used in the story to add to our door. At the end of the day, we welcomed P3 Red into our class to share their favourite books with us. We have had such a fun day!

Here is a brilliant video of the author Michael Rosen reading his classic story.

On Friday we had a special World Book Day ‘Show and Tell’ and we talked about and shared some of our favourite books with our classmates.

Upcoming events:

On Wednesday 8th March we are going to be visited by a group of Medical Students from the University of Aberdeen. They are going to help us to find out more about the human body and how doctors can help us. The children can bring in their teddies to school on Wednesday and they will be able to apply bandages to help any sore arms, legs and heads. It promises to be a fantastic afternoon!

Weather permitting, on Friday 10th March we are going to go for a walk to the beautiful Cruickshank Botanic Gardens.

We will be joined on the walk by our P7 buddies. This time our walk will focus on examining what we go past, through, over, under and between. We encountered all these prepositions when we read the excellent picture book ‘Rosie’s Walk’ by Pat Hutchins. When we return to class after our walk we will begin to work on making our own books using all the information we gather on our walk. Any parent helpers that may be available to join us would be very  welcome. If you would like to come along on Friday morning please let me know in the playground or let the office staff know.

Many thanks,

Mr O’Neill
