It reminds us of our responsibility as adults to model how we use words, take turns and help each other to understand the meaning of words.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tes.com\/news\/viral-video-shows-how-parents-can-boost-pupils-language-skills\">https:\/\/www.tes.com\/news\/viral-video-shows-how-parents-can-boost-pupils-language-skills<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the key pieces of advice that we frequently give to parents and practitioners is the importance of modelling language to help develop children\u2019s vocabulary and sentences,&#8221; says Murrell. &#8220;As adults, we instinctively ask young children a lot of questions, such as \u2018What\u2019s that?\u2019, \u2018What colour is it?\u2019, \u2018Did you have a good day today?\u2019, \u2018What did you do?\u2019 etc.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, this doesn\u2019t always add anything and doesn\u2019t help to \u2018feed\u2019 little ones&#8217; new words. We also ask a lot of questions that we already know the answers to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA strategy that can make a real difference is turning most of those questions into comments; particularly comments about whatever a child is focused on at that particular moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In St Peter&#8217;s, our P1 classroom has a play-based curriculum where all staff listen, model clear speech, give the children the words they need and expand their thinking and vocabulary. &#8220;I see&#8230;&#8230;I think&#8230;..I wonder&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>We can all guide our children to learn through play.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make our thinking visible to make sense of the world<\/li>\n<li>We \u201cshow, not tell\u201d children how to think and learn.<\/li>\n<li>Through play, children can develop social\u00a0 skills.<\/li>\n<li>They learn to take turns.<\/li>\n<li>They learn rules.<\/li>\n<li>They learn to negotiate and compromise.<\/li>\n<li>They gain the self-confidence required to engage in new experiences and environments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thank you for all your support.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Please watch this fun video.
