Thank you for continuing to read with your child each night and for practising the &#8220;tricky words&#8221; that are sent home each week.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1419_f_improf_172x171.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"172\" height=\"171\" \/>At the beginning of January <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1421_f_improf_182x181.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"182\" height=\"181\" \/>we were learning about symmetry in maths. The children loved using mirrors to see symmetry in objects and they created beautiful symmetrical patterns.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1433_f_improf_238x238.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"238\" height=\"238\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1410_f_improf_231x230.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"231\" height=\"230\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1540_f_improf_388x388.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"388\" height=\"388\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We have now started learning about subtraction. The children are working very\u00a0hard to learn subtraction facts to 10. There are games to support their learning in maths on <a href=\"https:\/\/ec1.educationcity.com\/\">Education City <\/a>(usernames and passwords are in the back of your child&#8217;s\u00a0reading diary.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1495_f_improf_316x316.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"316\" height=\"316\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Throughout January the children have been engaging in our whole school &#8220;Scotland&#8221; topic. The children have been\u00a0learning about\u00a0where Scotland is in the world, some Scottish traditions, stories and\u00a0myths. This week the children will be learning about Old Aberdeen, our local area.<\/p>\n<p>Last week the children participated in some special events to celebrate Robert Burns. On Wednesday they enjoyed ceilidh dancing with the older\u00a0classes. The children worked very hard to learn 3 ceilidh dances!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1429_f_improf_254x253.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"254\" height=\"253\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1461_f_improf_251x251.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"251\" height=\"251\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On Friday\u00a0they participated in a whole school Burns assembly where each class showed off some of the things that they had been learning during the\u00a0Scotland project. Primary one blue showed their learning of Scots by singing two songs;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.educationscotland.gov.uk\/scotlandssongs\/earlyyears\/coulterscandy.asp\"> &#8216;Ally Bally&#8217; <\/a>and &#8216;Heid, Shouders, Knees and Taes!&#8217; They did very well and sang confidently to the whole school.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1512_f_improf_435x435.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"435\" height=\"435\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The children are starting a gymnastics block with our P.E teacher Mrs Armstrong. Thank you for sending your child to school with a gym kit (shorts and a white t-shirt) and gym shoes so that they can participate fully in these lessons.<\/p>\n<p>In R.E we have been learning about how God created the world.
