Here are some of the things we have done already and some things planned for the rest of the term!

Numeracy

In numeracy, we have started our new topic: Money. The children have been having lots of fun with this. We have been working on our identifying, ordering as well as how we can combine the coins to make different totals and combinations. We will conclude the topic by doing some money addition as well as learning how to work out the change using money.

In the second part of the term, we will be working on time. This will involve the children revisiting the days of the week and months of the year, recapping O’Clock and half past on the clock, before challenging ourselves to either quarter past, 5 past or 10 past! We will also be looking at digital time.

Literacy

We have continued to work in our RWI and Big Cat groups. Lots of us have been working on new sounds or practicing some from last term! Within literacy in class we have been working on our visualisation skills. We also completed presentations based on our Scottish IDL topic where we shared what our favourite food/drink was from the food tasting. We then will start to work on prediction and sequencing skills.

IDL

Our first context for learning this term is ‘Our Global World’. We first started this context for learning by exploring the first part ‘Scotland’. We learnt the poem ‘My Wee Doggie’ by J.K Annand, learnt the songs ‘Katie Bairdie’ and ‘Three Craws’ and created Scottish art pieces. We created the loch ness monster using charcoal as well as pictures inspired by Steven Brown’s “McCoo” paintings. We also learnt lots of Scots words – one of the ways we did this was by learning the scots version of ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’.

This month (February) we will be focusing on Africa/Malawi, the second part of our context for learning ‘Our Global World’. We have just has our “Africa Week”, where we focused on activities which involved learning about Africa as a whole continent. In this week, we read an African story called ‘All Stories belong to Ananse’ and learnt about traditional African clothing. We will create clay models of african pots to follow on from this week. The rest of this month will focus on the African country of Malawi. Activities for this include learning about the country including the flag, differences and similarities to Scotland, learning simple phrases and words in Chichewa and making Malawi toys.

For the month of March, we begin our last context for learning for the term, Our Spiritual World. For this context for learning we will learn about the religion of Islam.

RE

This term, we have started learning about sharing god’s love through helping others and the act of a baptism. Later this term, we will also cover topics like the Holy Family/Jesus as a child, religous festivals including lent preparations, the parish family as well as some bible stories.

Health and Wellbeing / Physical Education

In health and wellbeing, the children have been working on a new strand of ‘inclusion’. Children have already developed this by working as teams to complete tasks with Mrs Jadid.

This term for physical education, we have already completed our topic on Scottish Dance. The children will enjoyed this, especially using these skills in the ceilidh. We have now started our gymnastics topic and the children have been really enjoying this. We have been working on our jumps, balances and lots more. Later this term, we will be participating in our Tennis topic.

Miss Allerton

We have had a great start to term 3 and the new year in primary 2.
