Primary 6 have continued to show curiosity, kindness, and determination across all areas of the curriculum, and we are extremely proud of the progress they have made.

In Numeracy and Mathematics, we focused on developing confidence with Time. Pupils practised reading timetables, calculating durations, and interpreting real-life scheduling scenarios such as planning journeys using bus timetables. This helped them understand how time plays an important role in everyday organisation and decision-making.

In Literacy, we continued reading our class novel, working on deeper thinking skills such as inference and predicting what might happen next. Pupils have become increasingly confident in using evidence from the text to support their ideas. In writing, we explored ways to use conjunctions and ambitious vocabulary effectively. The children created a range of written pieces linked to our IDL topics, including recounts of our visit to the Mission and reflective pieces linked to the Easter Story. They also enjoyed imaginative writing related to African landscapes and journeys.

Our Religious Education learning this term has supported the children as they continue to work towards their Pope Francis Faith Award. Pupils attended Communion and Mass and explored the Easter Story through discussion, reflection, and creative work. Our visit to the Mission Church deepened this understanding further, giving pupils a chance to engage in storytelling and activities connected to Holy Week.

As part of Our Global World, we continued our learning about Scotland by tasting traditional Scottish foods and creating our own food reviews. This was a fun and memorable experience for the children, who enjoyed trying new flavours. Pupils also explored Scottish art and geography through painting famous Scottish bridges using hot and cold colour palettes.

As part of our Scottish IDL learning, pupils also took part in a very special Ceilidh celebration. Throughout the term, they developed their knowledge of Scottish traditions, music, and dance. During our PE sessions, the children learned a range of traditional Scottish dances, including the Gay Gordons and the Dashing White Sergeant. They practised teamwork, rhythm, movement, and listening skills while also learning about the cultural significance of these dances within Scottish celebrations.

To bring this learning together, Primary 6 joined with Primary 7 to host our own school Ceilidh. Pupils performed the dances they had been practising and supported one another with enthusiasm and confidence. The Ceilidh linked closely to our Scotland IDL focus, offering the children an opportunity to recognise how dance, music, and celebration play an important part in Scottish heritage. It also allowed pupils to experience the joy of community, cooperation, and cultural pride in a fun, active and memorable way. The Ceilidh was a highlight of the term and a wonderful chance for the pupils to showcase both their learning and their developing skills.

Our learning then extended to Africa, where pupils created booklets about Malawi and completed a writing piece imagining a journey through some of Africa’s most beautiful landscapes. Using ICT, they researched African animals and their natural habitats, which inspired the creation of detailed dioramas and clay models. A highlight of this topic was our African Culture Day, where pupils were invited to dress in attire representing their own culture while we celebrated African traditions, enjoyed African dance, and listened to a choir.

In addition to our Africa and Scotland work, we explored Judaism as part of our IDL learning. The class learned about key symbols, beliefs, and traditions within Judaism and researched the celebration of Shabbat. Pupils created informative leaflets and presentations using ICT to demonstrate their learning, helping them appreciate similarities and differences across world faiths.

Our PE sessions focused on teamwork, volleyball, dance, and gymnastics. Pupils were also introduced to a new social enterprise game which encouraged problem solving, communication, and cooperation. In Health and Wellbeing, we explored the SHANARRI indicators, with a particular focus on the importance of respect, especially around dietary needs and personal choices. We also looked at the topic of bullying, considering its impact and discussing strategies for preventing unkind behaviour. Through role‑play scenarios, pupils practised responding positively and empathetically.

In Music, pupils explored rhythm and composition using a range of instruments, including glockenspiels, tambourines, and percussion instruments. They enjoyed working together to create and perform musical patterns.

Our Science learning has been centred around renewable energy. Pupils learned about wind turbines and solar power and created their own wind turbine models. Our trip to the Aberdeen Science Centre supported this brilliantly, giving pupils the chance to take part in a water filtration experiment and explore the water cycle through hands-on exhibits.

We also celebrated Chinese New Year this term, with pupils enjoying a lively and engaging dragon dance experience. This gave them the opportunity to learn about cultural celebrations and traditions observed in different parts of the world.

This term has been filled with creativity, learning, and joyful experiences. The children have worked extremely hard and should be very proud of themselves. As school finishes on Friday, we hope all pupils enjoy a well‑deserved break. Thank you for your continued support throughout the term. We look forward to another exciting and successful term ahead.

Dear Parents and Carers, As we come to the end of a wonderfully busy and enriching term, we would like

[307

post-18730","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-p6-2025-2026
["GET
