Primary 6 have worked incredibly hard and should be very proud of all they have achieved.

Mathematics

This term, we have focused on developing our understanding of fractions, percentages, decimals, volume, area, and perimeter. Pupils applied these skills in a variety of practical and real-life contexts. For example, we measured the school car park for Mr Sturrock in preparation for a car boot sale and calculated the perimeter of the playground. During PE sessions, we also measured distances to apply our learning further.

In addition, pupils explored calculating percentages of quantities through real-life scenarios such as discounts when shopping and measuring ingredients in recipes. This practical approach has helped deepen their understanding and confidence.

Literacy

In Literacy, we have continued to develop reflective reading skills, with a strong focus on prediction and inference. Pupils explored a range of genres and linked their reading to our IDL, including evacuations during the Blitz bombings and completing comprehension tasks related to Pearl Harbor.

Primary 6 pupils have shown increasing confidence in their writing. They are using a variety of sentence openers, conjunctions, and “wow” words to enhance their work. They have produced a wide range of texts, including recounts of class trips, instructional writing, imaginative stories, and impressive newspaper articles about the Blitz.

We were also very proud of the pupils who supported Father Gabor during the Ascension Mass, confidently reading passages and prayers.

Interdisciplinary Learning (IDL)

Our IDL topic this term, “A Trip in a Time Machine,” took us back to World War II. Pupils created timelines in groups, using research skills and ICT to present key events creatively. They explored the impact of the Blitz, comparing experiences in Aberdeen and London.

Through role play, pupils created air raid shelters, reenacting the events of the bombing and consequent child evacuations. They wrote thoughtful diary entries from the perspective of a child during the Blitz. They also produced striking artwork using hot colours against the dark London skyline.

We were delighted to welcome Mr Paterson, who shared valuable insights into the impact of World War II on our local area.
