It is lovely to be back after the summer break and P6 have settled into their new classroom well. They have enjoyed the opportunity to get to know our new teachers, timetable and routines!

Details Of Our Learning in Term 1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Literacy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We enjoy reading and selecting our own Accelerated Reader books to read daily for enjoyment and challenge. Reading groups will also be established along with regular Reflective Reading lessons. Cypic writing will be mostly linked to our contexts for learning \u2018We Belong At St. Peter\u2019s School\u2019\u2019 and \u2018Inventors and Inventions.\u2019  These topics will offer many opportunities for writing from many genres, including persuasive, functional and imaginative story writing. Listening and talking opportunities will also be linked to our context for learning topics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Numeracy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our current mathematics and numeracy focus is \u2018Number and Number Processes..\u2019  Over the coming weeks, we will be looking at the importance of: place value;  addition; subtraction; multiplication; division and negative numbers. We will also provide opportunities for problem solving activities linked to real life situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Health and wellbeing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with sports coaches from \u2018Next Level Foundation\u2019 on a weekly basis. These sessions will be linked with the skills we will be developing during our PE slots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During our gym lessons this term, we will be learning more about fitness and will be concentrating on improving our hockey and tennis skills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our health and wellbeing lessons this term will be based on the indicators Safe and Healthy, from the SHANARRI wheel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We took some time to remind ourselves about the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. We worked together to identify some articles which we consider important to us and to children around the world. We have included these articles in our Class Charter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Contexts For Learning:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the first 4 weeks of the new term, our context for learning will be \u2018We Belong At St. Peter\u2019s.\u2019 Primary 6 will be learning more about being unique, and the importance of respect, inclusion and diversity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Inventors and Inventions\u2019 will be our second interdisciplinary topic. P6 will be learning about Artificial Intelligence and we will be questioning whether it is a friend, helper or hazard! This topic will give the opportunity to develop our technology skills along with learning about modern day inventors, designing our own AI products and comparing AI to human work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things to Remember:        <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monday – Sports Coach session, please wear comfortable \/ sports clothes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday – PE please wear comfortable clothes \/ sports clothes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mobile phones must be handed into the office every morning before school starts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Water bottles and a healthy snack should be brought from home every day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
