{"id":19062,"date":"2026-09-02T11:11:48","date_gmt":"2026-09-02T10:11:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/st-peters.aberdeen.sch.uk\/?p=19062"},"modified":"2026-09-02T11:11:48","modified_gmt":"2026-09-02T10:11:48","slug":"term-1-in-primary-5-6-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/st-peters.aberdeen.sch.uk\/?p=19062","title":{"rendered":"Term 1 in Primary 5\/6"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Welcome back after the summer!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In term 1 we are going to learn:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Numeracy<\/strong>&#8211; Data Handling with Mrs Binkowicz.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will be learning to interpret a variety of graphs\/ tables and charts. We will also learn how to create a bar graph, line graph, pie chart etc. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With Miss MacDonald the children are going to be focusing on estimating, rounding (including using rounding to work out calculations), and place value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Literacy<\/strong>&#8211; we will use CYPIC (CHildren Young People Improvement Collaborative) methodology&nbsp; to work&nbsp; towards our own targets within punctuation, vocabulary, spelling&nbsp; with a continued focus on creative writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In reading we will be continuing to use reflective reading strategies with our reading groups and in whole class lessons.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Science<\/strong>&#8211; Biodiversity&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0We will Classify\u00a0 living things into plants (flowering and non-flowering), animals (vertebrates and invertebrates) and other groups through knowledge\u00a0 of their characteristics.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;We will describe how energy flows between plants and animals in more&nbsp; complex food chains and webs and ecosystems, using vocabulary&nbsp; such as \u2018producers\u2019, \u2018consumers\u2019 and \u2018herbivore\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>French-<\/strong> We will revise our knowledge of the months of the year, numbers and days of the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>RE-<\/strong>&nbsp; we will be revising the <a href=\"http:\/\/prayers.we\">prayers.<\/a> We will also be learning to reflect on our god-given talents and&nbsp; will decide how we can use them to help others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our <strong>IDL<\/strong> topic is \u201cWe belong in St Peter\u2019s\u201d we will be learning about the make-up of our class and how, as unique individuals, we all bring our skills and talents to make one St Peter\u2019s school. We will be holding class elections for the pupil council rep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>General information:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Miss MacDonald- Monday,\u00a0Thursday, Friday<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mrs Binkowicz- Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On <strong>Monday <\/strong>we have NLF, children wear school uniform. If children have a yellow St Peter\u2019s P.E. t-shirt, they can wear that.<br>On <strong>Friday <\/strong>we have P.E where children can wear P.E. kit to school.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Can <strong>all <\/strong>children please have indoor shoes for P.E lessons please.
