{"id":2039,"date":"2015-03-02T16:38:01","date_gmt":"2015-03-02T16:38:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/st-peters.aberdeen.sch.uk\/?p=2039"},"modified":"2015-03-03T10:01:48","modified_gmt":"2015-03-03T10:01:48","slug":"primary-5-february-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/st-peters.aberdeen.sch.uk\/?p=2039","title":{"rendered":"Primary 5 February news"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Hello from Primary 5!<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/_d_improd_\/IMG_0025_f_improf_215x267.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"215\" height=\"267\" data-mce-width=\"44.39999997615814\" data-mce-height=\"60.39999997615814\" \/>We are excited to have started our new topic, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/schools\/primaryhistory\/world_war2\/\">Home Front during World War II.<\/a> We sat in rows and practised ducking for safety when we heard the siren. Some of us brought precious artefacts for &#8216;show and tell&#8217; and others shared memories of their great grandparents going to war. We also watched a couple of videos about the war on BBC iPlayer. We\u2019ve started to research different aspects of the war individually or with a partner.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Maths<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.everyschool.co.uk\/maths-key-stage-2-algebra-2.html\">(Algebra)<\/a>, we have learned that a letter can represent a missing number. We can also recognise <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/bitesize\/ks2\/maths\/number\/number_patterns\/read\/4\/\">square<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mathsisfun.com\/definitions\/cube-number.html\">cube<\/a> numbers, use a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amblesideprimary.com\/ambleweb\/mentalmaths\/functionmachines.html\">function machine <\/a>that operates on numbers in two steps and work out which side of an equation is greater than the other.<\/p>\n<p>Next, we are going to learn how to solve simple equations by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mathplayground.com\/AlgebraEquations.html\">balancing both sides of the equation<\/a>. Our next topic in maths is how to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maths-games.org\/time-games.html\">tell the time accurately to the nearest minute <\/a>to and from the hour on digital and analogue clocks. We are also getting better at calculating time intervals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Art<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We made our own gas masks. We also made name tags which showed our name, address and date of birth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Literacy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We imagined we were evacuees and wrote about our experiences and feelings while we were away from our families. We also wrote instructions about how to make a model gas mask.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Netball\/ Gymnastics<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have started learning how to play netball with Mrs Jadid. We were excited to have our first netball match.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Armstrong is teaching us gymnastics like cartwheels and round-offs. Some of us did very well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lent<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We wrote our Lent poem in our best handwriting and promised to be on our best behaviour. We will also pray more and collect money for the charity <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciaf.org.uk\/the-wee-box\/\">SCIAF<\/a> as we learned about some people needing money in other countries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello from Primary 5!
