January has been a really busy month. We&#8217;ve been learning lots of exciting things. Here are some photos of us in our learning.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_0997_f_improf_294x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"294\" height=\"224\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1000_f_improf_288x218.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"288\" height=\"218\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We have finished our maths topic on money. We have explored how a total can be made in different ways as well as paying for an item using the fewest coins. We applied our knowledge of addition and subtraction for payments and change up to 50p.<\/p>\n<p>In our writing, we have been learning about the features of non-chronological reports. We had to write a report about a safari animal. We had to include a title, subheadings and a picture. We know that a subheading helps the reader to locate information in a non-fiction text. Have a look at our fantastic writing display!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1014_f_improf_494x399.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"494\" height=\"399\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1015-e1454961289275_f_improf_288x380.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"288\" height=\"380\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1016-e1454961957348_f_improf_311x367.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"311\" height=\"367\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In our communication topic, we have had great fun learning about sound waves whilst making our own string telephones.\u00a0Here they are in action!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1008-e1454961340116_f_improf_288x380.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"288\" height=\"380\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1006_f_improf_289x382.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"289\" height=\"382\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We know that John Logie Baird invented the television. We learnt that the first television only had one channel! To help us compare old and new televisions, we made a television timeline.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1062-e1454961365791_f_improf_392x298.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"392\" height=\"298\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We looked at pop-art artwork by Andy Warhol. We tried to make our own pop-art using silk crayons and felt tip pens. We had to make our work really bright and have a repeated pattern. They look great!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1058-e1454961404347_f_improf_206x258.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"206\" height=\"258\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1059_f_improf_360x274.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"274\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We have been learning different ceilidh dances in P.E. To celebrate Burns Night, we held a school ceilidh. It was great fun! We danced the Dashing White Sergeant and Strip the Willow!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1039_f_improf_280x221.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"280\" height=\"221\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1031_f_improf_279x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"279\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is what we will be learning in\u00a0February and March.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phonics<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>We are going to be learning the sounds<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;ea&#8217;<\/strong> as in <strong><em>break, great, steak <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8216;<strong>ou&#8217;<\/strong> as in <strong><em>would, could, should<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8216;<strong>ey&#8217;<\/strong> as in <strong><em>money, honey, donkey, monkey, journey, chimney, valley<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are making sure that we can spell the following tricky words:\u00a0<strong>white, why, also, turn, great, should, would, open, song, hard, read, call, even, fly and close.\u00a0<\/strong>and we will\u00a0consolidate previous phonemes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Watch this video to practise the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jua0OODatow\">&#8216;ey&#8217;\u00a0sound with Mr Thorne <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spellzone.com\/word_lists\/list.cfm?wordlist=4720\">see and hear a longer word list at Spellzone!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We have enjoyed exploring Scots words.\u00a0Here we are looking at some Scots poetry!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1052-e1454961381626_f_improf_250x190.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"190\" \/><\/p>\n<p>RGU have produced a super Doric dictionary which is available free online &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wwww.rgu.ac.uk\/file\/doric-dictionary\">www.rgu.ac.uk\/file\/doric-<b>dictionary<\/b><\/a>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/weather-words_f_improf_358x247.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"358\" height=\"247\" data-mce-width=\"40\" data-mce-height=\"40\" \/>We have been learning different Scots weather words. We will be using some of these words to write our own weather forecasts!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mathematics:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are going to be learning to add together larger numbers using column addition or &#8216;chimney sums&#8217;. We will use our knowledge of\u00a0Hundreds, Tens and Units to help us. We have already started to add using carrying and are enjoying applying what we have learnt to solve problems. In the next few weeks, we will be looking at subtracting larger numbers as well as developing ways of estimating the answer to a calculation.<\/p>\n<p>Have a look at this video!\u00a0Dave the penguin is learning how to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/education\/clips\/zbc87ty\">recognise three digit numbers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After watching the video have a go and see if you can\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/schools\/starship\/maths\/games\/place_the_penguin\/big_sound\/full.shtml\">Place the Penguin!<\/a>\u00a0Can you create\u00a0the 3 digit number correctly?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Topic:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are continuing with our communication topic.
