We have been working very hard and would like to share what we have been learning\u00a0with you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We really enjoyed our Scotland topic and we learned a lot about local castles. \u00a0Our favourite castle was Dunnottar Castle. \u00a0Ask the children to tell you about its important location!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We also enjoyed learning about tartan and even made our own kilts. \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1446_f_improf_320x243.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"243\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We are continuing to practise our writing in lots of different ways. \u00a0I am so proud of the progress the children are making. \u00a0We are all clever cookies!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1439_f_improf_338x255.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"338\" height=\"255\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1441_f_improf_351x266.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"351\" height=\"266\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We have been celebrating things that are special to us from different countries around the world. \u00a0The children really enjoyed this opportunity to share with each other. \u00a0Thank you to parents for sending the various prompts into school as they\u00a0really\u00a0gave the children confidence to share and we had a very successful lesson.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1461-e1456487841319_f_improf_192x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"192\" height=\"240\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1471_f_improf_252x332.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"252\" height=\"332\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1473_f_improf_249x329.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"249\" height=\"329\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We celebrated Chinese New Year as a whole school, with a very exciting visit from a Chinese Lion doing a dance for the whole school.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1478_f_improf_282x216.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"282\" height=\"216\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1487_f_improf_267x203.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"267\" height=\"203\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We also welcomed Anqi Tong\u00a0from the Confucius Institute to teach us all about the Year of the Monkey.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1477_f_improf_186x244.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"186\" height=\"244\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We\u00a0are continuing to share and celebrate our success as a class and we really enjoy doing this. \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1495_f_improf_290x234.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"290\" height=\"234\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We have enjoyed making Eco posters as part of our Eco Work. The children made posters with a focus on litter to display around the school.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1508_f_improf_231x177.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"231\" height=\"177\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/_d_improd_\/IMG_1505_f_improf_254x193.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"254\" height=\"193\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We have been enjoying the songs in French on Education City. Please see your child&#8217;s Education City homework to practise the songs together.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Planned learning for the next few weeks:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Phonics<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Weeks beginning 29th February and 7th March: We will be consolidating our phonemes &#8220;igh&#8221; and &#8220;y&#8221; (as in sky).<\/li>\n<li>Week beginning 14th March: \u00a0i-e. \u00a0 \u00a0common words five, time, life and line<\/li>\n<li>Week beginning 21st March: \u00a0o-e as in home \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Tricky common words &#8211; \u00a0more, school and Mrs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Please check Education City for activities which have been allocated to help your child to practise\u00a0the spellings and sounds.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Literacy \/ Reading<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thank you for your continued support with reading. \u00a0The children are making fantastic progress. \u00a0Please continue to practise reading aloud at home as often as possible. \u00a0It really has made a huge difference.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Maths<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We will be continuing to work on place value, concentrating on tens and units. \u00a0Aspects of money will come into this. \u00a0We are becoming familiar with coins in class and are adding amounts together using 10ps and 1ps.<br \/>\nThe boys and girls will be working on patterns with Mrs Duncan on Wednesdays. They will be creating patterns using shape and then, eventually, number patterns.<br \/>\nWe will be continuing to focus on the 2, 10 and 5 times table in mental maths.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Please check the\u00a0fantastic activities on Education City. The children are familiar with them in school and you can access them at home.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Topic<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our new topic is &#8220;When Gran Was a Girl&#8221;. \u00a0Many thanks for the way you have already contributed to it! \u00a0So far we have discovered our Gran&#8217;s favourite toy from when she was a girl. \u00a0We have been discussing and writing about our own favourite toys. \u00a0Throughout this topic we will be looking at the differences between how our grandparents lived as children\u00a0and how we live our lives now as little girls and boys in St Peter&#8217;s School. \u00a0We will be exploring this topic through discussion at home with our families, and bringing the information we learn back to class. \u00a0We will be looking at Gran&#8217;s toys, clothes, school, shops etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We will continue to celebrate Lent within class. We are reflecting on our Lenten promises and trying hard to make good choices in order to be good people. \u00a0We will continue to listen to Bible stories and reflect on them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Science<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The children will continue to enjoy Science lessons focussed on space and planets with Mrs Jadid every\u00a0Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you again for your continued support. \u00a0Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any assistance with any aspect of what I have written or for help using Education City.
