<\/a> <\/p>\nPrimary 6 have been very busy in the last few months.<\/p>\n
Literacy <\/strong><\/p>\n We finished our novel study \u201cHoles\u201d this week. It has been a great basis for our\u00a0literacy studies over the last few months. We have been linking our writing to our weather topic in recent weeks. We have created information posters on the types of instruments that are used to measure weather. We also created our own haiku types, a Japanese style of poetry, about the different seasons.<\/p>\n Maths <\/strong><\/p>\n We have been working hard in maths lately. We are just finishing our information handling topic and are moving on to fractions, decimals and percentages. For some extra practice, the children can use the Lumio resource at home. It is great for exploring fractions, including equivalent fractions, simplifying fractions and mixed and improper fractions.<\/p>\n We have been very lucky to have Mrs Stevenson\u00a0with us for the last two weeks. She has been showing the class, and Miss McLoughlin, how we can learn maths outdoors. So far we have covered measure and fraction topics. It has been an eye opening experience and we have all really enjoyed it!<\/p>\n Topic<\/strong><\/p>\n Our topic for our final term in Primary 6 is \u201cWeather\u201d. The children have been learning about weather instruments and completed some fantastic pieces of homework which they should be very proud of. They also created a beautiful display, illustrating the different cloud types. This helped them with their homework task this week, observing clouds and making a cloud diary.<\/p>\n We will move on to learn about different types of weather, climate zones and extreme forms of weather and how to stay safe in these terrifying weather conditions.<\/p>\n http:\/\/www.weatherwizkids.com\/<\/a> is an easy to use website about all aspects of weather which the pupils will find very beneficial for their homework tasks in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n Forth Road Bridge<\/strong><\/p>\n Along with the P5 class, we went on a class trip to Edinburgh, building on our learning about rivers and bridges last year. We left bright and early and set off on the road to Edinburgh to see the Forth Road bridge and the new Queensferry crossing bridge that is currently being constructed. It was a lovely day and we really enjoyed the trip! As well as refreshing our memories about different types of\u00a0bridges, we learned about the names and purpose of different types of Personal Protective Equipment.<\/p>\n Daily mile <\/strong><\/p>\n Every day, we have been running around the perimeter of the playground seven times which makes a total of a mile. This means that, between us, P6 pupils\u00a0cover 30 miles each day. We are contributing to our school goal of 6018 miles, the distance from Aberdeen to Rio de Janeiro,\u00a0before the 2016 Olympics start.
