{"id":8240,"date":"2017-11-25T11:30:48","date_gmt":"2017-11-25T11:30:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/st-peters.aberdeen.sch.uk\/?p=8240"},"modified":"2017-11-25T11:30:48","modified_gmt":"2017-11-25T11:30:48","slug":"november-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/st-peters.aberdeen.sch.uk\/?p=8240","title":{"rendered":"November news"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During this term, the children have covered a wide range of writing genres including instructional writing, letter writing and imaginative writing.<\/p>\n<p>In phonics, we have looked at the<strong>\u00a0\u2018oe\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0and<strong>\u00a0\u2018oo\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0phonemes and we have been identifying words that have these sounds.<\/p>\n<p>In spelling, we have practised a range of strategies such as Elkonin boxes and Diacritical marking, along with using our knowledge of phonics to help us to spell tricky words.<\/p>\n<p>Education City has some great activities to help with our spelling words. All children have their usernames and passwords in their homework jotters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maths <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This term we have been working on \u201cshape\u201d. Miss Sheerin brought us out to the playground for some outdoor learning on a \u201cshape hunt\u201d. We were searching for 2D and 3D shapes in the playground. The children have been very enthusiastic in learning and have produced some great work, both at home and in school.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Music<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With Christmas soon approaching, panto practice is in full swing. The Primary 4\u2019s are learning lots of songs for the panto \u201cCinderella Rockerfella\u201d. Lots of practice is being done in school. Please encourage your children to learn the words really well.<\/p>\n<p>This term, Primary 4 have also been having music classes with Mr Dawson and they have been learning to play the recorder. The pupils have taken a keen interest in learning to play an instrument.<\/p>\n<p>Some of our class are also members of the school choir. They have been busy working with Mr Dawson and Mr Horton to prepare for events at St Mary&#8217;s Cathedral, St Nicholas Kirkyard, St Machar Academy and the consultation event for the Tillydrone Hub. Please read the letter that was sent home with all deatils of the events and return the slip to us in school no later than Wednesday 29th November. Thank you.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Children in Need <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our class were very generous in supporting \u201cChildren in Need\u201d. Pupils were encouraged to wear spots on the day. Most children have received their \u201cI belong\u201d books. This lovely book supports our conversations about the sacrament at school and at home. Please remind your child to bring the book to school every day and look at it often with your child at home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>P.E.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Swimming lessons have finished and the children learned vital life skills. Congratulations to everyone on receiving certificates of achievement.
