P7 January News

January has come and gone very quickly in P7 with lots of hard work being done in class. In maths we have all been working well through fractions, decimals and percentages and the children have shown a great attitude to their learning through this maths topic.

As we prepared for Burns Day, we studied the Highland Clearances and looked at the way in which people used to live in the North of Scotland centuries ago. This was a fascinating topic for our class as most of the children had no idea of the pain and suffering some families went through in those days. We don’t need much of an excuse to have delicious food in P7 and, as Burns Day drew closer, we all had a Scottish Food Tasting afternoon where the children sampled lots of Scottish delicacies with Haggis getting the thumbs up from most!

Our new topic as we approach February is Mountains. We have started to look at the different mountain ranges in the world and the children are looking forward to discovering new learning opportunities within this topic area.

2015 is an important year for P7 with some of the children receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. Work to prepare the children for this has begun and I thank you for your support in helping to fully prepare your child for this important event.

Homework will continue to be handed out on Monday and returned on Friday. Homework will consist of a maths activity, topic work and literacy work. In addition, Wednesday afternoons continue to be our gym day with Mrs. Armstrong. This is our Gymnastics block of lessons so please remember to bring gym kits every Wednesday!

Thank you for all the help in ensuring Panto Pandemonium was a success. I know all the work that must have been done during the cold December nights in order to prepare the children for the stage – they were fantastic!

Here’s to a Happy February!
