Welcome to P7!
Welcome back to all the boys and girls in P7. It is great to see everybody back healthy and happy with lots of great summer stories to tell. This is a very busy year for us and the hard work has started already!
In maths we are exploring fractions at the moment and making great progress. We will look at the link between fractions, decimals and percentages and how we use these in everyday life!
Our topic is Natural Disasters and the children are discovering the ways in which these occur all over the world. Classroom activities, homework tasks and independent research enables the children to have a well rounded learning experience within this topic. As part of Techfest, there is an opportunity for the children to attend a workshop run by Professor Iain Stewart, presenter of of BBC Science programmes on the topic of Earthquakes. This is on Friday 11th September at 7pm – cost £11/£9 concessions.
We are working through active literacy activities and continue to use the accelerated reader scheme to improve our reading and comprehension skills. Book detective novels are used as homework reading and later this year we will introduce a class novel.
P7 have shown themselves to be great role models for the P1 children and have helped ease them into primary school life with great success. Well done!
Over the next few weeks House Captains will be decided on and the children who are interested in becoming a House Captain will write a letter of intent in the coming days. Good luck to all involved!
Our P.E days are Mondays/Wednesdays and our day for Drama with Mr. Horabin is Thursday. In addition, visits to the ASV Aquatic Centre are currently underway for swimming. Please ensure the children remember their kits for these days. Thank you!
Homework will be handed out on Monday and collected on Friday. Homework tasks are aimed at both helping the children to work independently and also to work with the support of an adult at home. Thank you for your support in this.
