P3 blue June 2016
Hello from Primary 3 Blue. We have had a really busy term! Look at all the different things we have been learning.
We used different equipment to measure in centimetres and metres, looking at which unit is best to use for different lengths. Here are some pictures of us measuring different things.
We used trundle wheels to measure distance. We discovered it is 14 metres to the office from our classroom and it is 69 metres to the portakabins.
We have been estimating curvy and straight lines. We used string and rulers to accurately measure and compare with our estimates.
We also learnt how to measure and compare different objects using grams and kilograms.
We had great fun doing outdoor learning with Mrs Stevenson. We learnt about right angles. Here we are creating a right angle picture!
Topic:
We have a very special visitor in class. Paddington Bear has come to visit us all the way from Peru. He is staying with us until the Olympics in Rio where he will be meeting his Aunt Lucy in Brazil.
We have been learning about Peru. We can name some foods that come from Peru and talk about the climate there. We used the Ipads to research different animals.
We used pointillism to create a Paddington Bear picture.
Here are some posters that we made.
With Mrs Croxon, we looked at children from different countries around the world and learnt about what makes them happy. We made a poster to show that all children have a right to play.
This term, we looked after some caterpillars. They arrived as tiny caterpillars and grew very big. We loved watching them grow and turn into chrysalids. We loved seeing the butterflies emerge. On Friday we set our butterflies free.
This is what we will be learning in the last few weeks of term.
Phonics:
We are going to be learning the sounds
‘dge’ as in fridge
‘o’ as in some
‘ch’ as in chef
‘ti’ as in station
We are making sure that we can spell the following tricky words: does, changes, show, think, same, month, together, work, Saturday, Sunday, try, real, eye, low, animal, such, talk, air, life, land, need and move. We will consolidate previous phonemes.
Mathematics:
We are going to learn how to display data simply, clearly and accurately by creating tables, charts and diagrams. We will learn how to label the axis correctly and include titles and scales. This week the children will be looking at bar graphs.
Practise at home by clicking on the link to play ‘Animal Island Data’. Can you help Molly count and graph the different animals?
Topic:
It will soon be time for Paddington to leave and meet his Aunt Lucy in time for the Olympic Games in Rio. We are going to be learning about the Games including more about the host country Brazil, as well as some of the events and competitors.
Thank you for your continued support.
