Welcome back
Happy New Year and a warm welcome back to St Peter’s. We wish you all a very happy, healthy, peaceful and successful New Year. Many thanks for all the lovely cards, gifts and good wishes that were shared with all staff before the holidays.
I am really happy to be returning to St Peter’s this week although, on medical advice, I need to have a phased return. This means that I will try to come into school on most days but I may not be there all the time. My mobility and energy are still a little limited and so I am very grateful to Mrs Bain, Mrs Robertson and Mrs Kelman for continuing to run the school so well. I am also very grateful to the incredible staff team for their professionalism, support and understanding over the last few months. Many thanks also to our lovely pupils and wonderful families for all your support and prayers which have carried me through.
Very well done to all the pupils and staff for presenting fabulous Christmas concerts, ‘Christmas with the Aliens’ and ‘Aladdin Trouble’. Both productions were wonderful and the generous financial support of parents and friends raised £287 for Friends of ANCHOR and HCPT. These worthy local charities offer great support to cancer patients and to vulnerable families. Thank you so much. This was on top of the £301.15 raised for SCIAF through P7’s ‘Talented Fundraisers’ and £211.26 for Missio Scotland by our P6 pupils. You can see photos of their efforts on the P6 and P7 pages of the website.
Timetable information
We are welcoming back our student teachers to three classes –
- Miss Alford in P7
- Miss Wilson in P4/5
- Miss McNicol in P5/6
We also welcome back our volunteers, Sister Wiesa and Mrs Gerrard. We are very grateful to them for giving up their time to support the children’s learning.
The website has been updated and the dates of trips to ASV have been added. As always, we appreciate help from any parents to escort the children there and back safely. Please let your child’s teacher know if you can help or contact the office. Many thanks.
Health and wellbeing
We continue to offer as many opportunities as possible to develop the children’s health and wellbeing. The Aberdeen Football Club Community Trust tutors will return for coaching and playground sessions on Tuesdays, starting on 17th January. Sarah Doran, Active Schools Co-ordinator, is continuing to organise After-School activities. Please contact her on 07825 228173 SaDoran@sportaberdeen.co.uk for more information about spaces.
All children have PE lessons with our PE specialist, Mrs Armstrong, this week as well as lessons with their own class teachers. Please ensure that they have their PE kits in school every day – white or pale blue T-shirt, dark shorts and gym shoes or trainers. The days for specialist lessons are
- Monday – PE with Mrs Armstrong – P5/6, P4/5, P4, P3 blue and P3 red
- Wednesday – PE with Mrs Armstrong – P6, P1 blue, P1 red, P2 red, P2 blue and P7
- Thursday – Drama with Mrs Hutton – P2 red, P4, P4/5, P2 blue and P6
Modern languages
We are lucky to have a Mandarin teacher, Miss Zhou, working alongside the class teachers in many classes
- Monday and Wednesday P2 red and P3 blue
- Tuesday P4 and P4/5
- Thursday P5/6 and P4
At the end of the month, many classes will have special activities to learn about the culture of China, linked to the Chinese New Year.
All P1 – P3 children are learning French with their class teachers and P6 and P7 are learning German.
Music
We are lucky to have tutors in school each week from Aberdeen Music Centre. If your child is in P4 – P7 and is interested in learning piano, woodwind, brass or guitar, please contact the office or e-mail stpeters@aberdeencity.gov.uk so that their name can be added to the waiting lists.
P1 enrolment
We have not yet received information from Aberdeen City about arrangements for P1 enrolment next session. If you have a child who will be 5 years old between 1st March 2017 and 28th February 2018, they will be eligible to start school next session. We will pass on enrolment information as soon as it is available.
Parent Council
Finally, huge thanks to our Parent Council for all their hard work to involve parents and the wider community in the consultation about the future of our school. All the feedback has now been published on the Aberdeen City Council website – http://www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/Tillydrone-OldAberdeen/
This feedback will be considered and a report will be drawn up to be taken to a special meeting of the
Education and Children’s Services Committee in February. We will keep you posted with any information updates.
In addition to all the work on the school estate, a very successful Christmas Fayre was held on 3rd December which raised more than £1000 for Parent Council funds. In addition, our enterprising classes sold a range of items to raise money which they will spend on projects and outings. Many thanks for your continued support.
We look forward to a happy and successful year ahead. As ever, please contact me if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions.
