First Holy Communion preparation

Many thanks to the families who attended Wednesday’s meeting. Father Gabor spoke about the parents’ role in preparing the children for this lovely sacrament. Mr McFadden and Miss Bennett will teach the children, delivering the Curriculum for Excellence Experience and Outcomes for Religious Education in RE Schools.

We use “I belong” as the main resource. The book will be completed in school and at home to create a personal momento of this special time in their relationship with God.

At the end of each chapter is a “Family Time” page with suggestions for prayer and something to do together as a family. Small information boxes have been added throughout the book. These cover areas such as: search the church for particular items, explanation of Catholic practices, what to look out for while at Mass and new words associated with Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and the Mass. There is also a symbol of a Bible to check out Bible references at the end of scripture passages. A small candle features on the corner of each page which, when coloured, indicates progress through the book, and a bookmark will help children find their place in the book at the start of each session.

Fr Gabor will visit the class regularly to support the children. There will be two First Holy Communion Masses on Saturday 22nd June at St Columba’s RC Church in Bridge of Don – 10.30am and 1pm.
