P2 2019

Welcome Back Primary 2

Welcome back Primary 2. I hope you all had a lovely October break.

We have a busy term ahead and we look forward to sharing lots of fun and exciting learning with you!

Maths

This term we will be looking at time. We will be learning how to use a calendar to plan as well as sequencing key events. We will also be looking at analogue clocks, concentrating on o’clock and half past. Fun Mental Maths games and activities will also be available for the children on Education City.

Literacy

We will be learning a new sound each week and will engage in fun activities to help us learn our sounds. We will be learning four common words each week which we will work on in class and as homework tasks. This month we will be concentrating on:

ow – yellow  grow  again  food

ue – blue  best  number  other

aw – very  took  fast  there

oi – their  some  them  last

au – because  week  keep  when

In reading this term, we will be focusing on fluency and understanding the text. Please ensure your child has their book bag with them every day. We will also be visiting our school library every week so that children can enjoy reading with you at home!

Topic

With the lead up to Christmas our focus will be on our Nativity called ‘Hey Ewe’. We have already started rehearsing and can’t wait to showcase the production with our friends and family! We will also be reflecting on how different parts of the world celebrate Christmas as well as looking at Advent and what it means to us. We are looking forward to Mrs van der Plas sharing Bible Stories with us this term.

Health and Wellbeing

This month we will be focusing on the ‘Achieving’ indicator from the SHANARRI Wheel, specifically looking at healthy eating and the importance of daily exercise.

P.E days are on Tuesdays where RADS coaches come in and teach the children football skills and Wednesdays where we will be enjoying class P.E and the importance of working as part of a team. Please ensure your child has their P.E kits with them every day.

We will be lucky enough to have Mrs Hutton in this term teaching us drama and Mr.Dawson teaching us music!
