P5 2022-2023

P5 update

We are happy to share an update on P5s learning.

Maths

Having worked through length, units of measure, area, perimeter and volume, P5 are now working on weight and capacity as we round off our measure topic. There have been great examples of independent and co-operative learning throughout this topic. It has also been great to use real life examples when thinking of measure. We will be going on to data handling before the end of Term 3.

Literacy

We are really enjoying our class novel – Stig of the Dump. We are using this to take part in individual, paired and shared reading opportunities. We are also using reflective reading as a way to study our novel closely. In addition, we continue to use my rising stars as our reading homework and accelerated reader when reading for enjoyment. This year World Book Day introduced us to new books through our book swap and free books that we ordered. It was great to choose our own books based on our favourite genres.

Our writing this term has been following our different contexts for learning – Scotland, Malawi and will now focus on ‘Our Spiritual World’ throughout March. This has given us the chance to write in different ways – personal, instructional, recounts and non-chronological. We are also using more digital technology to enhance our learning through writing and our literacy in general.

Health and Wellbeing

Miss Hammond has been working with us in Health and Wellbeing recently. She works with P5 every Monday morning and has been covering lessons linked with feeling ‘Respected’ and also works with Callum during our RADS sessions on Monday mornings.

Weekly updates

Weekly updates of our learning highlights continue to be posted every Friday on our Google Classroom page, please check this out along with any other information about upcoming events/activities in P5/St. Peter’s by checking Google Classroom.

Home Learning

In an ordinary week, Homework will go out on Monday and is expected to be returned online by the following Friday. Homework comprises of My Rising Stars (Reading/Literacy) and Education City (Maths/Literacy) therefore is completed online. There are also home learning challenges which children can take part in throughout the term. The current Home Learning activities and challenges are linked to ‘Our Spiritual World’ and are Easter themed. These can be undertaken throughout the month of March. Details of these can be found on P5’s Google Classroom page. If you have any issues with this please let Mr. McFadden know.

Thank you,

P5.
