P2/3 2022-2023

P2/3 Term 3 News

There has been lots happening in P2/3 this term.

January – Our Global World (Scotland)

As part of our context for learning we took part in Scottish dancing, learning the Flying Scotsman and the Virginia Reel. We got the chance to show our dances at the whole school ceilidh and all the children loved taking part in this, especially with the live band! In writing, we were learning to write letters and looked at books with links to Scotland, such as Katie Morag and No Such thing as Nessie. In expressive arts, we used a range of art materials to learn about lines in art, drawing Nessie with charcoal.

February – Our Global World (Africa)

This month, we engaged with lots of activities linked to the country of Malawi. We used clay to make African animals, such as monkeys, elephants and crocodiles. In writing, learnt to write non-chronological reports and based these on African animals that we had been learning about, bush babies were our favourite! We had opportunities to be confident individuals, getting to take part in an Afristyle dance workshop and some of us were selected to perform in front of the school and parents!

We teamed up with P1 to learn about Global Goal 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation and to raise money for Water Aid, taking part in a water obstacle course to highlight the importance of not wasting water when many in other countries do not have the luxury to easily accessible (and clean) water.

March – Our Spiritual World

Our IDL context for learning was Islam and Lent/Easter. We had a excellent visit to St Machar where we identified signs and symbols of Christianity. This linked nicely into one of our IDL lessons, where we compared Islamic/Christian symbols and the meanings behind them. We also worked in groups to create Mosques, including key things that would be found inside, such as prayer mats and a Qu’ran.

In numeracy, we focused on addition and used Base 10 materials and the column method to support our understanding.

Science Week

Science Week 2023 was all about making connections. The class enjoyed a range of activities during this week, and had many opportunities to be creative and work collaboratively.

Thank you to P2/3 for all their efforts this term and we wish you a happy easter!
