P5 2023-2024

Term 2 in P5

Welcome back to P5s section of our school website. In this post we will be sharing how our learning has gone throughout the term.

Maths

In Maths we worked hard through our fractions topic and are completing our work with Time. We enjoyed applying our fractions to real life contexts and this helped our understanding. We discovered how important it is to know our division facts in order to find fractions of quantities and worked on this during mental maths activities.

In Time we have converted between 12 and 24 hour clock, digital and analogue time and shown an understanding of timetables and how to read them. We know how important a life skill this is for us to have and have used real life contexts again to help our understanding.

Literacy

During our Inventors and Inventions topic we had lots of opportunities to prepare and present to our class. Lots of examples of talking and listening were shared during class debates over modern day inventions where we shared our opinion in lots of different ways. Our writing this term has been linked to Inventions and Inventors and St Peter’s Arts Festival. We have produced:
– Recounts to describe our Panto Experience
– Posters advertising the pantomime
– Recounts which detail our class trip to Aberdeen Art Gallery
– Our experience of performing at the Crib Blessing
– Persuasive writing describing why our invention is a good idea
– Imaginative writing linked to Inventors and Inventions

Performance Opportunities

Throughout Term 2 we have had many opportunities to lead or represent St. Peter’s School in many different ways:

– Remembrance/All Saints/All Souls assembly
– Performance at the Crib Blessing at Union Terrace Gardens
– All Saints/All Souls Mass
– Choir for our school pantomime ‘A Hint of Snow White’
Part of our Choir Carol Singing at Morrisons during Christmas Time

We have been very proud with how P5 have responded to the different opportunities they have been given this term.

IDL

Our Contexts for Learning this term have been Inventors and Inventions and St. Peter’s Arts Festival. During Inventors and Inventions we had lots of great learning opportunities looking deeper into modern day inventions and how we could either create something brand new ourselves or improve what is already out there. This formed the motivation for our Dragons Den competition where groups within our class competed to have their invention chosen to e the P5 Invention winner! Eventually our class winner was the ‘Dog Diaper’! Well done to everyone involved.

For St. Peter’s Arts Festival we formed part of the choir our school pantomime ‘A Hint of Snow White’ led by P7. We worked hard to learn lines and lots of different songs which produced a fantastic performance on 14th December. As earlier stated we also used this context for learning for more expressive arts opportunities like Advent Wreath creating, Poster making, Making Christmas Fayre Mug Cakes and taking part in the Winter Trail at Aberdeen Art Gallery. Wee done to P5 for being such successful learners in all our contexts for learning this term.

Catholic Education Week

This year our theme to focus on was Pilgrims of Faith. We thought about pilgrimages and the journey Catholic’s make to feel closer to God. We also took part in research of Saints who inspire us and presented this to our class!

Thank you for visiting our webpage. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
