What has been happening in P7 this term
We were excited about our “Last class” photo featured in the P & J. Details on how to order a digital copy will be shared on the Google classroom in the coming weeks. Here are some of the highlights of our last term of P7 so far!
Confirmation Preparation
Pupils receiving the sacrament of Confirmation have been busy preparing for June 6th. At the beginning of this term, pupils chose their Confirmation Saint’s name, a saint who inspires them and someone they can pray to. At the end of April we had our Enrolment Mass, it was lovely to have so many parents and sponsors in attendance. In May, we met with other P7s from the other Catholic schools, St Josephs and Holy Family, to attend a Confirmation retreat. We took part in a range of activities based around the Holy Spirit which included Tug of War, water relays and making smores. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed their day!
Context for Learning – Silver City by the Sea
This term, we have been focusing on the impact oil in the North Sea has on Aberdeen’s economy. We had a very interesting workshop provided by Grey Hope Bay which we loved. We have explored a range of writing genres, an imaginative story entitled “Silver city by the set”, a set of instructions on how oil rigs work and a persuasive piece of writing on whether we should be using 100% renewable energy. We have also created some beautiful artwork which we will showcase at an open afternoon, more information on this to follow.
Active adventure day
Our wonderful pupil council organised and hosted a wonderful “Charlie’s House” themed Active Adventure day and raised funds for the charity. We had some “Crufts” themed activities, as well as a very popular tuck shop! A great day was had by all!
Transition events
With pupils from our class attending many different academies, some transition events have already taken place, with some pupils visiting their new schools. We had a visit from the St Machar guidance counsellor, learning how timetables in the academy work which was interesting and allowed our pupils to ask questions about their big adventure to the academy in the coming months!
Rory the Unicorn – Doric film festival
We have taken our book from the pages to the big screen! With the help of Jackie nd Aaron from Doric books, we brought Rory the unicorn to life and put in an entry for the Doric film festival. We are looking forward to attending the awards ceremony in June! We had a great day filming around our local area!
Our book is still proving very popular, with local MP, Kirsty Blackman. She couldn’t attend the book launch but she was a big fan and so we recreated our book launch in the classroom especially for her!
