JRSOPupil Council

Pupil Leadership Groups

Term 3

Along with our pupil voice groups, we also have three pupil leadership groups – the Learning Council, the Pupil Council and the Junior Road Safety Officers  . Each group is working hard to ensure that all of our pupils are consulted, and are able to voice their opinions and ideas in our learning and play.

Here is a quick round up of what each group is working on this term:

Learning Council

The Learning Council will be presenting a ‘Learner of the Month’ certificate to one pupil from every class.  Each month the Learning Council and class teacher will select a skill from out St. Peter’s framework and they will be looking for pupils who are displaying these skills. The first skill we are looking at is self management.

 Examples of self management are:

  • Setting personal goals for yourself
  • Organising yourself
  • Using your initiative
  • Managing your time so you can complete tasks
  • Being motivated
  • Taking pride in your work

At the end of January, we will announce our first certificate winners!

The Learning Council will also be organising a morning of activities for the next Active Adventure Day. The theme will be ‘Burns / Highland Games.’

Junior Road Safety Officers

Our Junior Road Safety Officers continue to play a very active role in our school. They have been working with Mrs Kelman and Mr Sturrock to help create our School Active Travel Plan.

This term they will also be working closely with Fiona from Sustran to:

  • Create a map of safe routes to school, including park and ride locations and crossings in the local area.
  • Train and be aware of how to ensure all pupils are using our scooters safely, they are wearing protective clothing and maintaining the equipment well
  • Making a new video raising awareness on the hazards of parking on Dunbar Street

Pupil Council

Our Pupil Council has been monitoring and evaluating the results of their ‘Visitor Questionnaire’ which was created last year to measure how welcoming and friendly our staff and pupils are to visitors. The questionnaire is available on both paper and electronic forms at the office.

They are happy to announce that all results so far have been extremely positive!

This term, the pupil council will be involved with our new school building. They will be taking time to look at the new school design boards, coming up with some initial thoughts and questions about this. This will help them to prepare for their eventual involvement with the contractor for the works!
