Term 3 in P4/5
In term 3 we will be working on three different topics. We will start with ‘Our Global World-Scotland’. During this IDL we will look at Scottish landmarks, traditions, poetry, dance and try Scottish food. We will finish our topic by celebrating Burn’s Day in class.

We will:
- enjoy learning Scottish traditional dances and
take part in class ceilidhs. - participate in art, poetry and music competitions.
- create art work and poetry inspired by Scottish culture and explore our own artistic interests
- have mini “Burns suppers” in each class
- take part in whole school Burns Day celebrations
Our next IDL will be called ‘Our Global World- Africa and Malawi. During this topic we will learn about African dance, music, instruments and traditions. Then, we will start focusing particularly on Malawi and talk about global goals such as food sustainability, inequality and the right to learn.

We will:
- participate in cultural dress day
- participate in whole school African dancing
- listen to African stories
- link our learning to global goals
- write stories based in Africa
- do research about Malawi and African animals
Our Final IDL this term will be ‘Our Spiritual World’ where we will learn about Jewish symbols, festivals and traditions.

We will:
- research Jewish festivals
- look at symbols of Jewish religion and artifacts
- visit one of the places of worship for other religions in Aberdeen
- visit virtually a synagogue
- celebrate Lent and prepare for Easter
Literacy
During literacy lessons we will write different genres such as leaflets, imaginative stories, postcards, book reviews and diaries. We will also learn to use our reflective reading skills to understand texts better and further develop our reading skills by working on ‘ The Butterfly Lion‘ a book by Michael Morpurgo.
Numeracy
This term during numeracy lessons we will revise our knowledge of reading time on analogue and digital clocks. We will also learn to estimate and then measure how long tasks or events take and what we can achieve in a given time period, tell the time on 24 hour digital clocks, relating this to 12 hour clocks and talk about how people plan their lives using times and dates. Finally, at the end of term we will start learning about fractions. We will explore how to find fractions of shapes and quantities. We will also look at converting fracrtions into decimals and percentages.
RE
During RE lessons we will learn more in depth about the story of Epiphany. We will also read Bible stories about miracles and discuss how miracles showed the compassion Jesus had for people and he did not want to see them suffering unnecessarily. We will also discuss different Sacraments, their importance and their meaning. At the end of term we will prepare for Lent and Easter. Read Bible stories related to Easter and discuss fasting, prayer and almsgiving.
PE
Our PE lessons will take place on Thursdays this term. We will learn skills required to play badminton. We will also participate in PE sessions on Tuesdays. Please remember your shorts/tracksuits, trainers, t- shirts (no football kits) for PE lessons.
Homework
Our homework will include numeracy tasks, reading books and spelling words. Numeracy homework will be posted every Monday and should be finished by Friday.
