Happy New Year from P7.

Happy New Year! 2016 is a special and busy year for our P7. There are many important events taking place within the coming months and we can’t wait to get started!

Novel Study

We will be studying the novel ‘Wonder’ written by R.J Palacio. This book tackles many themes and issues that the children can relate to at this stage in their lives. There has been an enthusiastic response to this novel within class and we will be using ‘Wonder’ as the main context for our learning with Literacy.

Maths

P7 have been taking part in an ‘Apprentice’ like project within their Money and Finance topic. The class were split into 4 teams: ‘Keen Wonders’, ‘BTP’, ‘Lava Land’ and ‘Team Orbit’. Each team was tasked with creating a unique Lunar Theme Park set in the year 2050! Each team were given a budget of £500,000 and given freedom to create their own business.

Each team would then use a formula to calculate how their business would survive if it ran for a day, then a month. If after a month they were still making profit they could ‘launch’ their project!

The final task will be to present their business plan to the whole class, revealing their monthly profit as a business. They will then look to persuade the judges to select their team.

We are approaching the final stages of this project and it is too close to call a winner! Stay tuned!

Our next topic will be Time. In the coming weeks homework and classwork will be based on this.

Homework

Homework will continue to be handed out on a Monday and collected on Friday. If you require any clarification regarding homework, please don’t hesitate to ask. Maths, Language and Topic activities are given as homework and your support is appreciated in helping further their learning at home.

Jacobites

Throughout the month of January and beyond our P7 topic is The Jacobites. The children have already looked at the origins and motives of this group of rebels and how successful they were during the risings of 1715 and 1745. This will be the main context for learning throughout all the different areas of the curriculum.

Rotary Quiz

We are currently planning a team of four P7’s to represent St. Peter’s at this years Rotary Quiz on the 1st March 2016. Last year we finished in 2nd place 2 points from victory. Here’s hoping we go one better this year!

Advent Service 2015

The whole school walked down to Kings College at Aberdeen University and took part in a uplifting Advent Service. We joined in to sing hymns and carols to celebrate the end of the school term as we prepared for Christmas day. We walked with our P1 buddies and it gave the P1’s and the P7’s a chance to have some time together on the walk to and from the service.

Hoodwinked!

Well done to all the P7’s in making our Christmas Panto ‘ Hoodwinked’ a great success.

All the hard work and rehearsals at home and school were worth it in the end! On the last week of school they performed to a different audience on four occasions, receiving great feedback on the way.

Congratulations!
