P3 red November News
Hello from Primary 3 Red.
We have been really busy learning lots of fun and exciting things.
We are learning lots of new sounds in Primary 3. On Monday mornings we enjoy listening to the phoneme story and identifying words with our sound.
We have been busy in mental maths. We have been practising adding within 20. We are now really fast and accurate with our answers.
We used numicon materials to help us with our problem solving. We practised halving and doubling our numbers as well as finding out how many ways we could make 10 using different combinations.
We created firework pictures by making our own scratch paper. First we used wax crayons to create colourful patterns on A4 paper.
Then we covered our paper using black paint.
Finally we used paint brush handles to carefully ‘scratch’ away our design. Our pictures looked fantastic!
In P.E we have been learning how to be good defenders and attackers. We are learning to play as a team and work together to score a goal.
We have been learning some French! We can do the register and dinner numbers in French as well as follow some simple instructions. We also learnt how to say ‘hello’ at different times of the day.
This is what we will be learning in the next few weeks of term.
Phonics:
We are going to be learning the sounds
‘th’ as in then
‘ie’ as in tried
‘ve’ as in have
‘g’ as in gentle
We are making sure that we can spell the following tricky words: spring, sunny, those, home, tell, large, spell, still, saw, own, small, something, live, give, about, around, house, hour, side. We will consolidate previous phonemes.
Here are some videos of Geraldine the Giraffe leaning all about the soft ‘g’, and the ‘ie’ sound!
Mathematics:
We are learning how to add two and three digit numbers using the written ‘column’ method. We are going to be learning how to set out calculations correctly and will also look at how to add using carrying. We will be revising how to partition numbers into hundreds, ten and units.
Topic:
Our new topic is Space! The boys and girls came up with lots of questions they would like to find out about including;
Why is the sun bright?
How far away is the moon?
Where do the rocks in space come from?
In the coming weeks we will be learning about the four rocky planets and the four gas planets in our solar system. We are also going to find out about life as an astronaut and discover some of the history of space travel.
The following websites have lots of fun facts about space!
Space for Kids at the European Space Agency has lots of fantastic information about life in space, technology and our universe.
Science Kids includes lots of fun facts, quizzes, games and videos.
Primary 3 are very busy practising for our Nativity performance. The boys and girls are doing a fantastic job! All children have been given lines to take home. Please practise reading them aloud and try to memorise them if possible.
Thank you for your continued support.
