January in P3/4
Happy New Year!
P3/4 have quickly settled into the new term. We are pleased to have our student teacher Mr Clarke back with us and look forward to learning with him over the next few weeks.
Topic: Our new topic this term will be ‘Scottish Stories.’ This is mainly a literacy based topic which will also offer opportunities to work within other areas of the curriculum. So far we have learned about the Loch Ness Monster and Greyfriars Bobby!
Mathematics: Mental Maths opportunities continue to be explored on a daily basis. We have been learning about compass points, right angles and have enjoyed recording routes and following directions. Next week the children will be developing an awareness of grid reference systems and will use them to locate and describe position.
Literacy – The introduction of phonics and common words will continue. We will be writing our own Scottish poems, imaginative stories and instructional pieces linked to our topic. Please can you ensure your child has their reading book in school every day.
Gym – The children are preparing for the Burns’ Ceilidh and have been learning some Scottish dances.
We look forward to showcasing our learning on Friday 2nd February.
