Happy New Year from Primary 5/6
Hello from Primary 5/6!
We are busy settling into a new term and looking forward to all the exciting things we will be learning.
Topic
Our current topic is Scotland. We are learning about the Scots language and we used some Scots words when we wrote our own Haiku poems. We also wrote acrostic poems about the Loch Ness monster. They are fab!
With Miss Ronald, we worked in groups to create our own ‘Oor Willie’ comic book scene. We acted it out in drama and we are going to be writing our own ‘Oor Willie’ playscripts!
We are also learning about the poet Robert Burns. We used laptops to research his life and then created factfiles using this information.
Maths
We are learning to tell the time on analogue clocks using o’ clock, half past, quarter past, quarter to, five minute and one minute intervals. We are also solving problems where we can complete time calculations using our knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Language
We have started our new class novel ‘Holes’ by Louis Sachar. We have already used our skills of ‘predicting’ to discuss what we think will happen in the story, using information from the blurb and the front and back covers. This week we will be looking at ‘inference’ and we will try to write character descriptions, justifying our ideas by using evidence from the text.
Thank you for all your support,
Miss Webb and Miss Ronald
