Our Learning in Primary 5/6

Hello from Primary 5/6! We have been very busy learning lots of new and exciting things. Here are some of the different things we have been doing .

We really enjoyed sharing our Scotland learning in assembly. We sang ‘Katie Bairdie’ and were able to showcase some poetry and artwork.

We created portraits of the poet Robert Burns using pencils. We created our own tartan using paint for the background. They look fantastic! We learned about the life of Robert Burns and created fact files about his life.

We are enjoying learning how to play some chords on the ukulele. We are beginning to learn how to read music and experiment with rhythm and pitch.

We used the internet to research information on different sporting events in the Winter Olympics. We are going to create an information poster to share what we have found out.

In maths we were revising factors and multiples and were sorting numbers into a venn diagram. We are currently learning about two different methods for completing division including ‘chunking’ and the formal (‘bus stop’), method.

You can practise the formal method playing by playing this game.

This website explains the chunking method and has some different questions to help you to practise at home.

After our unit on division, we are going to begin our topic on fractions, decimals and percentages.

We will have P.E with Mrs Armstrong every Wednesday. Please remember to bring suitable gym kit. No jewellery is allowed to be worn and this includes stud earrings and watches. Pupils should remove their own jewellery. If pupils are unable to do this themselves they should not be wearing it to school. These are  new Aberdeen City Council guidelines and help keep all children safe.

Thank you for your support.
