Literacy

We have recently completed our novel study – “The BFG”. We really enjoyed using this as a context for our literacy work in reading, writing, talking and listening. We are moving on with our literacy and, over the next few weeks, we will be writing a recount of our fun day at the Aberdeen Youth Games 2019. We continue to use Active Spelling in the classroom and we have opportunities to work together and independently every day.

Maths

We have worked well through our Shape, Position and Movement topic. We know the properties and names of different shapes and can use good vocabulary like ‘equilateral’, ‘polygon’, ‘symmetrical’ and ‘quadrilateral’ when describing certain shapes. We are currently working on co-ordinates. We are finding this challenging and fun.

Topic

In topic we are studying the Rainforest. We are currently working through a research project where we are identifying the many different species that exist in the rainforest. Then we choose one to study and present to the class with a partner. It is a great way to get used to working together using technology to make our learning even better.

Aberdeen Youth Games

Last Friday P4 had a great time at the Aberdeen Youth Games. We took part in lots of different sports including athletics, rugby and basketball. P4 represented the school really well and should be very proud of themselves. Every child left with a medal and a sense of achievement. Well done.

Science

P4 loved working with Hayley, Aberdeen University Science Ambassador, to learn more about living things. This was a great foundation for our Rainforest project. On our last week we discovered more about the human body and we felt like proper scientists with our lab coats. Hayley brought in a skeleton and other materials to make it easier to apply our learning to real life.
