P5 2019

Primary 5 February learning

Here is some of the learning that has been going on in the Primary 5 classroom this month.

Mandarin

We were so delighted to have Maia and some of the other Mandarin teachers from across the city to join in in celebrating Chinese New Year. We listened to Maia playing a traditional Chinese instrument which was amazing! Then we created our own fire crackers and tried some calligraphy. We had great fun!

Outdoor learning

Group 1 were very lucky on their most recent trip to Seaton Park as they planted trees with the Friends of Seaton Park! The aim is to plant a variety of trees that will encourage more biodiversity in the area.

Topic

Our topic this term is Mary Queen of Scots. We have been working co-operatively to try to make sense of Mary’s complicated family tree.

Health and well-being

Max and Dick came to visit from ASV and they helped us to improve our table tennis skills. It was so much fun!

Maths

We are still working on our maths topic of fractions, decimals and percentages. We have been really enjoying getting more familiar with the Numicon resources and how these can be a learning tool in a wide range of areas in maths.

Things to look forward to

This week is the beginning of Lent. We will be celebrating Ash Wednesday Mass this week and working on our Lenten promise.

We are delighted to have Redball cricket coming to visit us over the next few weeks to teach us about cricket.

Next week is World Book Day. We look forward to celebrating our love of books!

We are enjoying learning  about the Orchestra and listening to our set pieces in preparation for our trip to hear the Royal Scottish National Orchestra at the end of March.
