P5 2021-2022

What P5 will be learning this term

Here is a overview of what we will be learning in Primary 5 this term:

Numeracy

This term we will focus on money, looking at recognising coins and notes, calculating change, looking at different special offers and deals and calculating what is the best value and budgeting skills. This will also link in with our IDL topic of “Our Working World”.

Later on in the term we will focus on position and movement, covering compass points and grid references.

Literacy

In writing we will be focusing on different styles of functional, personal and imaginative writing. This will be linked to our IDL topic too. We will look at advertising, creating CV and job applications, writing recounts about our experiences and working on characterisation.

We will continue daily literacy lessons focusing on comprehension, grammar, spelling and VCOP (vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation.

Health and well being

In PE our focus will be hockey this term. We will continue our weekly RADS lessons with Callum.

In November, we will learn about fire and firework safety in the lead up to Bonfire night.

Other curricular areas

In RE, we are learning about Saints and how we can strive to be modern day saints. We will also look at the Ten Commandments and learn more about the season of Advent and the nativity story, focusing on the crib and the star.

In science, we will be learning about space.

IDL

Our whole school topic this term is “Our Working world”. More information will be shared on this topic in the coming weeks.

We also took part in a time capsule project with the University of Aberdeen. We wrote messages to the future, about our hopes for the world in 2040. Some of us got to go and bury the time capsule which was great fun!
