P6 2021-2022

P6 Term 3 News

Welcome back to our P6 page full of news and updates of what we have been learning since coming back to school after the Christmas holidays.

Maths

In January we are working through fractions. We have been learning in lots of different ways and also have used our prior knowledge of our fraction work from P5 to help us. Some of us are getting better at finding fractions of quantities, including using fractions which have a number above ‘1’ as the numerator. Other groups in class have been finding equivalent fractions whilst also using our knowledge of common denominators to simplify fractions. The rest of P6 have been working with improper fractions and mixed number fractions. Converting between the two. Thank you to Miss Forsythe who has been helping with our fraction work whilst in our class.

Literacy

We have been celebrating Our Cultural Scotland as our topic throughout January. This will lead to a special Burns Day celebration on Rabbie Burns day, 25th January where we will celebrate Scottish culture in the arts and also with some food tasting. In our literacy work we have been working on Scottish based learning including a newspaper report where Nessie has been found, Scottish poetry and trying to translate between Scots, Doric and English and writing or learning our own Scots poems as part of our at school and at home learning throughout January. Well done to P6 for being so enthusiastic throughout this topic.

Health and Wellbeing

We continue to place health and wellbeing as a core area of the curriculum and give our children in P6 lots of learning opportunities in this area. We have been learning through R.E and health and wellbeing when we have thought about the talents we possess and what we could do to make sure these talents are growing. We have linked this to the Parable of the Talents from Matthew in the New Testament. This made us aware of all the different talents we have that could help make the world a better place. We found this to be an important way to build each other up.

We also take part in weekly P.E lessons as well as RADS. For the next 4 weeks P6 will be receiving swimming lessons at ASV every Tuesday. P6 are very lucky to be able to take part in these lessons at such a great facility. Information has been sent out to make sure parents/carers are aware of what equipment the children will need each week for swimming. Swimming is part of our curriculum and it is important the children take part as they would with any lesson during the school day.

We will be back in February with an update of how our learning in late January/Early February has gone.

Thank you for your support,

Mr. McFadden
