P2/3 2023-2024

Term 1 P2/3

Welcome to P2/3! We have had a busy few weeks and are looking forward to lots of learning and fun over the term.

Contexts for Learning:

Our Contexts for Learning this term are ‘We Belong’ and ‘Inventors and Inventions’ We have started our ‘We Belong’ context by reading the book ‘Our class is a family’, using this to link into learning about our rights and creating our class charter. There will also be the chance to take part in class talks and a talent show later on in the term! For our ‘Inventors and Inventions’ context, learners will have many cooperative opportunities to create, design and share inventions.

Literacy:

This term, we will be continuing to using Read Write Inc to support spelling, reading and writing. The learners’ have shown their confidence in using ‘Fred Talk’ to blend words in their personal writing so far. We are currently learning to write non-fiction books and will move onto functional writing later in the term.

Numeracy:

In Numeracy this term we are continuing to build on using Maths Mastery to develop concrete, pictorial and abstract skills. We have been learning to name, order and find missing numbers. We will also be learning to partition numbers and add and subtract. Alongside this, our stand alone topic is shape.

Other curricular areas:

In Health and Wellbeing, we will be using the SHANARRI indicators Safe and Healthy to guide learning and in Science learners will be learning to understand inheritance, developing their knowledge and understanding of genetics.
