P5 2023-2024

P5 end of term news

Welcome back to P5s webpage. We are happy to give you an update on the learning that has gone on during Term 1.

Maths

We worked successfully through topics including rounding to the nearest 100/1000, place value to help with complex addition and grid multiplication. We have learned maths through lots of different ways and enjoy working together and independently. Our Maths Week also inspired us to think about the ways in which we use maths every day and how important this is. We enjoyed playing games, problem solving, working with special visitors and entering competitions during Maths Week.

Literacy

We completed our IDL context for learning – We Belong at St. Peter’s School and have started our new context for learning – Inventors and Inventions. Our work in literacy has been linked to these contexts for learning. In writing we wrote a letter linked to our pupil council elections, autobiographical writing describing our lives and where we have come from and posters for our St. Peter’s Parade. We have also made our own inventions and created instructions explaining how these work.

We have used accelerated reader to read for pleasure in school and are enjoying watching our sunflower grow as we target more certificates! We take part in reflective reading activities which help us think about what we have read in a deeper way and we enjoy working in our reading groups to read together. Our class book during term 1 was ‘Children who changed the world’ – it was inspiring to read and learn about children our age who made such an impact on the world through making small steps.

IDL

We created half and half self portraits to share more about who we are – our hobbies, interests and habits. It was great to share what we are like on the inside as well as the outside. We also created and presented google slides on our culture and heritage to explain where we came from and our place in the world now. It was very interesting to see how our different journeys to St. Peter’s. It was fun to create flags, banners and posters for our St. Peter’s Parade and we were very proud to show our flags. Election Day was another exciting part of our IDL this term as we had candidates in our class to vote for based on their speeches! Starting our Inventors and Inventors topic has enabled us to continue our creativity in art, technology and literacy. So far we have thought about modern day inventions and what we would like to invents using specific materials.

Health and Wellbeing

We have been working with Mrs Kelman for our Health and Wellbeing lessons in class. So far Mrs Kelman has covered the topics that keep us Safe and Healthy such as knowledge about the food we eat and how important sleep is.

In P.E we have worked through a small block of tennis, learning about accuracy, forehand, back hand and balance.
