P7 2023-2024

Term 1 News – P7

It has been a busy first term for the P7 boys and girls! Here is a snapshot of our learning:

Literacy

Our taught writing has been based on our contexts for learning “We Belong”. We wrote our own bio poems, gave our opinions in show reviews and created our own imaginative stories about “Unlikely heroes”. We only started our project with “Doric books” working to create our own Doric book based in Old Aberdeen. We’ve researched local places of interest and written our own non-chronological reports. We’ve really enjoyed our class novel, “The Boy at the back of the class” while also enjoying opportunities to read our own books through reflective reading.

We also gave our own personal talks on our skills and interests which was a really enjoyable experience, the presentations were excellent and shared with confidence.

We have had two Active Adventure days this term which has been great fun – one Superhero themed and one STEM based!

Numeracy

Our focus in maths and numeracy has been whole number, looking at rounding, estimating, order of operations as well as expanding our knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We really enjoyed Maths week, which was based on “Maths in Motion”. This week included GPS treasure hunts, Mathasso art activities, virtual bingo, timed obstacle courses among many other engaging activites. It was great to have some P7 winners at our Maths week achievement assembly too.

Health and wellbeing

Our focus in Health and well being lesson have been based on Safe and Healthy. We looked at food hygiene, thinking about the important of the 4 C’s – Cleaning, chilling, cooking and cross contamination, while also thinking about healthy foods and how to store this food safely.

Achievements

This term, we saw our Head boys and girls chosen alongside our house captains. We also had successful candidates as RADS leaders. It has been great to see P7 pupils acting as role models and taking on important leadership roles.

We also had some personal achievements this year, outside of school, which pupils adding to our achievement tree. It has been great to see the tree grow so much in just one term!

Some pupils also learned to ride a bike thanks to Fiona at ibike which was a great achievement and hopefully will encourage more physical activity in our pupils.
