Term 2 in Primary 1W and 1B

Primary 1 have had a super first week back after the holidays and have already had lots of exciting opportunities.

Literacy

This term we will be continuing to learn new sounds using the Read Write Inc programme, including special friends. We continue to explore writing through our play, as well blending our sounds together to read and write words. We have been trying very hard in our writing lessons and are using our Fred Fingers to help us spell. We also have Book Week Scotland coming up where we will be reflecting on what we are reading. We are excited about taking our new books home to share with our families.

Numeracy

In numeracy we will be learning to add and subtract with 5, 10 and 20. We will also be learning about 2D and 3D shapes, pattern and symmetry. We will be exploring number bonds and number patterns and skip counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.

Interdisciplinary Learning

We are continuing our topic of “Inventions and Inventors” where we have designed and created our own inventions in the form of helpful robots. We have enjoyed recycling materials to junk model our designs to bring them to life! We look forward to showcasing our robots to our families at the open day. Our next topic will be “St. Peter’s Arts Festival”, where we are excited to sing and learn new songs which will be a part of the school plays.

Health and Wellbeing

We have been enjoying keeping active through our P.E. lessons and RADS sessions, as well as our Active Adventure days. This term our Health and Wellbeing focus is “Nurtured and Achieving”. We will be learning what makes a good friend, how to celebrate our own achievements, and how to care for living things. We will also be looking at the life cycles of some animals.

Other News

We are very excited to have Mr Horton joining us on Friday mornings for singing and we continue to enjoy our science lessons with Mrs Jhadid. We look forward to sharing more news and photos with you soon!
