P5 2023-2024

Welcome to Term 3

Happy New Year and welcome to our Term 3 update where we will inform you on the different learning that will be happening in P5 this term.

Literacy

This term we are delighted to have a novel study as a focus for our classroom reflective reading work. We will we studying ‘How to Train your Dragon’ by Cressida Cowell. We have already started making predictions on what will happen based on the front cover, the blurb and what we know about each character. We will look forward to learning more through the book.

Our writing this term will be linked to the two contexts for learning that we will work through in Term 3. In the ‘Let’s Celebrate’ context for learning there will be lots of opportunities for imaginative writing as well as poetry.

In our ‘How’s the Weather’ context for learning there will be opportunities for functional writing such as science experiments, reports and newspaper articles.

We will continue to develop our listening and talking skills through delivering presentations and taking part in debates and discussion points.

Numeracy

This term we will be working on Date Handling and Shape, Position and Movement. There will be lots of opportunities to continue learning our maths and numeracy in different ways including independent work, paired work, cooperative learning groups and outdoor learning. We will use real life contexts in our maths and numeracy to ensure our learning is relevant and purposeful.

IDL

Our contexts for learning throughout Term 3 will be ‘Let’s Celebrate’ (Jan/Feb) and ‘How’s the Weather?’ (Feb/March). Opportunities for learning throughout these contexts are detailed in the images below.
