Term 3 – Learning to look forward to

Happy New Year from everyone in Primary 7. Here is a snapshot of what is happening in the term ahead.

Numeracy

This term we will be focusing on Fractions, decimals and percentages. We will be learning to calculates simple fractions of a quantity and uses this knowledge to solve problems in everyday contexts such as sales in shops. We will also learn equivalent forms of common fractions, decimal fractions and percentages and how to convert between these. We will explore how to calculates percentages of a quantity too.

Later in the term, we will focus on algebra learning to solve simple algebraic equations.

Contexts for Learning

Our first context for learning this term is “Let’s celebrate” where we will focus on the Scottish festival of Burns and the tradition Up Helly Ya festival. There is so many exciting things planned as you can see in the Let’s celebrate section of the google classroom and we look forward to showcasing our learning,

Our next context for learning later in the term will be “How’s the weather” where P7 will focus on extreme weather! More information bout this context for learning will be shared later on this term.

Literacy

This term we will start our class novel, “The Explorer”. We will use these book to help us to learn reading strategies such as prediction, metalinguistics. summarising, identifying the main points and inference. We will complete a range of activities based on the book.

Our taught writing will be based on contexts for learning throughout the term but we will also be busy promoting our Doric books project which will also be part of our planned writing this term.

We will continue to partake in daily literacy lessons focusing on tools for writing such as handwriting, spelling, grammar and comprehension.

Other

Our Doric books project will go to print soon, we will keep you updated with details of our book launch.

Preparation for Confirmation will take place this term for those who are receiving the sacrament.

Remember to try out some of the home challenges shared on the google classroom.

Reminders

Homework will continue to be assigned on a Monday and expected to be handed in on a Friday. All homework is completed on google classroom.

PE will now take place on a Thursday which means our PE days are now Monday and Thursday.

P7 are generally very good with their uniforms but just a reminder that smart uniform is expected when in school.

Please out names on jackets and lunches as we have a lot of issues with lost property on a daily basis.
