P1W 2023-2024

Term 3 in P1W

Numeracy

This term our main topic will focus on money. We will be identifying and sorting coins up to the value of £2. We will explore their size, colour, and shape and will have our own shop in the classroom to experience using money in real life contexts and giving change. We will also be looking at data handling where we will learn how to use tally marks, gather information and make graphs such as pictographs and bar graphs.

Literacy

In literacy we will cover a range of areas in writing such as personal, report writing and using our imagination to develop our own characters, plot and setting. Reading and spelling will continue through the Read Write Inc programme.

Health and Wellbeing

Using the SHANARRI indicators, our topics for the term ahead are Responsible, Respected and Included. We will explore healthy eating and food groups, our emotions and how to manage them and how to be responsible in school and at home.

Interdisciplinary Learning

Our first topic for the term is ‘Let’s Celebrate’ where we will learn about how people celebrate events in different cultures. We will be learning about Scotland where we will explore Burn’s Night and hold our own tasting afternoon and sharing event with parents. We will also take part in a whole school ceilidh! We will also be looking at Chinese New Year and how it is celebrated.

We are looking forward to a busy term ahead!
