Learning Update for P2/3
Here is an update on the learning that has been taking place in the first half of Term 3. Our first context for learning – ‘Let’s Celebrate’ was a huge success, with lots of fun learning opportunities!
Highlights of Let’s Celebrate:
- Our whole school Ceilidh – we did a great job at following the beats in the songs, The Flying Scotsman and The Virginia Reel!
- Scottish Open afternoon – families were invited into school to see our learning from this context.
- Scottish food tasting – teacakes were a popular favourite!
- Learning about the International Kite Festival – having the opportunity to fly the kites we had made in the playground!
Next Context:
Literacy and Numeracy for the next part of Term 3:
In Literacy, we will be using in school experiences to develop our personal writing skills, in the format of diary entries. Following this and linking to our IDL context we will be writing science/weather reports. There will also be daily writing opportunities during Science Week – where the learners’ will be reflecting on daily weather-related science experiments.
In Numeracy we will be continuing our stand alone topic of Data Handling throughout the rest of the term one day a week. We will be learning to read/create Venn diagrams, bar graphs and building graphs digitally. Following a short 2 week topic on Estimation and Rounding we are now a few weeks into our subtraction topic, where we are learning different strategies that we can use to help us solve subtraction problems and apply to word problems. We will then be moving on to Money, for the remainder of the term.
