Welcome to P1! Term 1

Welcome to the new Primary 1s! It has been an exciting few weeks for all of the new learners, who have been exploring their new school community and getting to know their classmates.

Literacy –

We will be using Read Write Inc. to teach phonics and support literacy lessons. We have begun learning our initial sounds and practising forming these correctly. Once we have learnt a range of these sounds we will focus on blending words. We are currently looking at personal writing, linking some of our experiences to our context for learning. Later on in the term we will be using our imaginations to create some imaginative pieces.

Numeracy –

In Numeracy this term we will be developing our understanding of number. This will include recognising, counting, and forming numbers up to 20/30. We will be using concrete materials to support this. We will also be ordering numbers and looking at a range of ways to count, for example forwards and backwards/skip counting.

Contexts for Learning –

We are Linguists – There will be lots of opportunities to learn more about French language and culture. So far we have been practising greeting each other in different ways. There will also be a French-themed active adventure day!

Our Future World – The learners will be exploring what they think the world might be like in the future, with the chance to learn more about using digital technology. This will also focus on STEM opportunities and coding!

Health and Wellbeing –

The focus this term will be on two of the wellbeing indicators; Safe and Healthy.

Once Google Classroom logins are set up:

Information on homework for each child will be shared on Google Classroom.

Weekly learning will be shared at the end of the week on Google Classrooms.
