Term 1 in P3
I an delighted to have taken the class into their P3 year. I can’t wait to see their progress throughout this year.
Literacy.
in P3, we continue with our “Learning to read” lessons on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays. On Wednesday we will continue to have writing lessons linked to IDL contexts for learning.
Writing.
For the first 4 weeks of term we are learning to write about our personal opinions. We have been learning to give reasons to support our opinions. So far we have written about whether or not we think Olympians are real life superheroes and which school value we feel is the most important. We are also going to be giving our opinion on our favourite Monet painting (between a choice of two). Finally, we will give our written opinions on what we would choose to order, and not order, at a French cafe.
We will continue with an imaginative and functional blocks of writing related to the 2nd context for learning “Our future world”.
Maths
We have started back to school with a unit on place value. We have been using materials and drawing pictures to represent numbers up to 999. We have been counting on and back in both 10’s and 100’s. We will also be learning to round to the nearest 10 and use the symbols <, > and = to compare numbers.
We will then complete a unit of learning on addition. The children will learn to add crossing a ten, for example 23 + 9 or 247+5, the children will start by using materials to represent the exchanging of ones for a tens unit. Some children will then move to using the abstract form of column addition.
Once a week we have a maths lesson with Miss Watson. We are starting a unit on Position and movement. The children will learn to tell left from right, programme robots to follow a route and learn to make clockwise and anti-clockwise turns. The children will also learn to follow simple grid references to solve problems.
IDL
Our first IDL is “We are linguists”, The children are learning to speak French. They have been learning simple greetings and revising numbers to 10. They have been enjoying playing games and singing songs to learn body parts, colours and animals. They worked with p6 to learn to sing the French song Frere Jacques in a round. The class looked at pieces of art by Monet and recreated two of these. During one of our R.E lessons each week the children will be learning about French Saints.
After the September weekend we will move to our second IDL “Our future world”
