Start of Term 2 in P1
New IDL Context:
Literacy
We have now covered all Set 1 sound through Read Write Inc. This term we will be revising these sounds, with particular focus on the ones learners are finding tricky. Using strategies taught through the phonics programme, we will be attempting to write/label our work. Firstly, we will be creating informational posters (functional) followed by sharing our thoughts and feelings about our future career aspirations (personal). Taught writing lessons will be linked to our next context for learning – Our World of Work.
Numeracy
This term we will be covering addition and subtraction using a maths mastery approach. The learners will be working within numbers to 5/10 and 20, gaining an understanding of strategies that can support them to add/takeaway numbers. We will look at using counters, cubes, tens frames, numicon and a range of other physical resources to develop initial understanding. We will also look at learning number bonds and doubles. Our stand-alone maths topics, which take place once a week will be position and movement; exploring positional language through objects and describing journeys of peers/beebots. After, we will move on to Shape and Pattern, where we will cover 2D and 3D shapes and pattern. This will include looking at features/differences of shapes in the environment around us and identifying and creating art using patterns.
Health and Wellbeing
Themes covered in health and wellbeing this term will be: Nurtured and Achieving.
