P6 2024-2025

Term 4

We have had a busy and exciting term 4 with lots going on throughout the school. Along with lots of learning taking place and a variety of trips, we have had various whole school events such as our summer show, sports day and our Ceilidh. We are in the process of moving to our new building which we are all really excited for.

Literacy

For literacy this term we linked our writing to our IDL topic of “our healthy world” and learned how to write persuasive letters to worldwide brands to try and sign our healthy product which we invented within IDL. We wrote an imaginative piece of writing from the perspective of a famous athlete being in danger at an event. We learned how to write a newspaper report in which we reported on our school’s sports day at Aberdeen Sports Village. We completed healthy eating within class and learned how to write a review of the foods we tasted during this.

Numeracy

We focussed on money and measurement and learned how to work within and set out budgets and learned how to work out profit and loss of items through the buying and selling prices. We also learned about the different types of measurement that are used within the world, and learned how to convert different units of measurement from one to another. We learned about the most appropriate units of measurement to use when measuring different objects and distances and were able to complete different activities within the classroom and our learning environment to link this to real life. We also learned about algebra and the different patterns in numbers and variable to formulate equations and solve problems.

IDL

Our IDL topic for this term was our healthy world in which we did a lot research based work on different athletes and sports, learning about the best ways to stay active and live a healthy lifestyle. We created fact files on different athletes and created digital work through using google slides and Canva on athletes from a variety of sports and presented this information back to our peers. We learned about their healthy routines in exercise and eating and looked at ways we could incorporate some of these things into our lives to maintain a healthy lifestyle. We completed healthy eating and had a variety of fruits provided which allowed us to try some healthy foods that we have never tried before.

PE

We started the term going over some activities that would be completed at sports day and were all able to practise the different activities that our sports day would involve. We got to visit ASV to complete our sports day in which lots of us received stickers for placing first, second and third. We then moved onto hockey and learned how to dribble correctly within a game of hockey. We also learned how to pass and receive a pass within a game and then looked at the different shooting techniques used within the game. We practised our Ceilidh dances again in preparation for the schools Ceilidh before finishing off the term playing dodgeball and bench ball. Throughout our RADS we have been able to develop our reaction time, teamwork and concentration and focus through football and enjoyed having a few fun lessons ending with corner football.

We have had a fun and exciting year together and are looking forward to the holidays to recharge and come back as the most senior class in the school.

It has been a pleasure to be the teacher of primary 6 this year and I wish them all the best for primary 7 and for their future within academy and the paths they go on.
