Term 2 P1/2

Welcome back after the October holidays! We have a busy term planned in the run up to Christmas, with lots of preparation for the Nativity.

In Literacy this term we will continue to use the Read Write Inc approach to support recognition of sounds and learning to read. Learners will be using their ‘fred fingers’ to ‘pinch’ the sounds they hear in words. Taught Writing will be done with Mrs Binkowicz. Wider literacy will also be taught through reading activities and IDL lessons.

In Numeracy this term we will be continuing to support learners with their number recognition and understanding. We will focus on the concepts of addition and subtraction within 5/10 and 20. Pupils will use a range of concrete and pictorial supports; such as numicon, numberlines, tens frames and physical counting materials to develop their knowledge before moving on to more abstract application. Mrs Binkowicz will teach the stand alone topic of ‘data handling’. 

This term we will continue with our ‘Myths and Legends’ context for learning before moving on to ‘Performers and Performances’. The current context is based on traditional fairytales and the next one will include learning around taking part in a Nativity. 

Homework will be posted weekly on Google Classroom. This will include a document with sound videos and numeracy games that match the learning in class. As we move through the read write inc program, some learners will begin to take home ‘ditty’ sheets/have homework available on Oxford Owl. Please continue to check school bags regularly as your child may come home with a letter about moving groups. There will be no more new sounds sent home in P1 wallets but please continue to practice reading/writing these with your child.
